Asked about Republicans who say she is driving the shutdown, Ocasio-Cortez said:

"Well, if that’s the case, my office is open, and you are free to walk in and negotiate with me directly, because what I’m not going to do is tolerate four million uninsured Americans because Donald Trump decided one day that he wants to just make sure that kids are dying because they don’t have access to insurance.

"That’s what’s not gonna happen. And so, if those senators think that we’re having a shutdown because of me, they’re free to enter my office and negotiate, because what we’re not going to do is allow all of millions of people in this country to not be able to afford their insulin and their chemotherapy. So, come strike a deal with me, if that’s what they really think is going on."

First of all, it is cute that she thought that Republicans would be clamoring to negotiate away parts of the OBBB, after working so hard to get it passed. The shutdown puts pressure on Democrats from their constituents, who are largely dependent on federal spending for assistance with their lives or in many cases, their entire livelihoods. That pressure will grow exponentially come the fifteenth when paychecks do not go out, as they did on the 1st.

That would be a good time appear at AOC's door, ready to negotiate. Her mouth will water at a chance to be the heroine that restored Biden-level spending, Biden-era policies toward illegals, and COVID era subsidies for the Health Insurance companies, while ending the shutdown.

Of course the Republicans should drive a hard bargain. Especially knowing what she would really want is credit for lifting the shutdown and being tough on Republicans:

AOC: Will you restore funding for public broadcasting? It is only half a trillion dollars!

REPUBLICANS: No.

But we will offer 1.2 million a year to NPR starting in January, if they use the months of November and December to hire some journalists and producers and fire some until NPR starts producing middle of the road factual news reporting, with all opinion shows allowing both sides equal time, instead of being a mouthpiece for the far left. Funding will be at the rate of 100K per month, with with funding revokeable if they stray from that new format.

We'll say you drove a hard bargan to get that out of us.

AOC: Will you restore Obamacare subsidies and Medicaid to persons with legal status?

REPUBLICANS: No freebies for people who crossed the border.

But will will give them a thirty day grace period to leave the country before they are deported, and a free ride to the border if they get caught using ER for primary care. We'll also leak to he press that you were a fierce negotiator and we hope you do not primary Chuck Schumer because he is such a pushover.

AOC: Will you take away that work requirement for Medicaid?

REPUBLICANS: No.

But we will reduce it from twenty hours per week to eighteen and quietly tell the media on deep background that was your demand and your steely gaze convinced us that you would not back down, so we caved.

Throw this little perra a couple of bones and she will be your loyal pet.

Once the Democrats stop insisting that they will not negotiate unless 1.4 trillion dollars in health care costs be provided for "ILLEGAL" migrants, the negotiations can be worked out.

Show us where 1.4 trillion dollars for health care costs are in the bill the dems would like.

Johnson already said yesterday they would keep treating illegals in ER's. So is that going to = the 1.4 trillion you and some other dolts come up with? Or is it something else.

The Dem Dirty CR doesn't explicitely advocate increasing spending. But it would have that effect by repealing parts of the OBBB that cut spending.

Here is the text of the Democrats and "not Democrats" CR:

Here is the text of the Reconciliation Bill that it modifies (would modify if it passed):

Nope, that won't work the number was quoted I want to see where the hell anyone came up with it.

Did you read the whole link you provided?

I'd like to see some negotiations, depending on what the Democrats and "not Democrats" are willing to offer.

What do you think AOC should offer to the Republicans in their negotiations?

I read the relevant parts.

If you don't believe me or the links, that's fine.

What do you think the Democrats and "not Democrats" are de-funding the nation to get? It has to be something, right? Schumer wouldn't really de-fund America just to prove he is as tough as AOC. Would he?

Chldren are about to starve:

Are starving kids, really the Democrats' only leverage?

No.

There is another option: The process of democracy in a representative republic gives them many levers - the levers in a voting booth.

If healthcare premiums are really going to shoot up to levels that they cannot be afforded, then of course the voters will turn out in droves to vote out the horrible Republicans that did that to them, and in the wonderful Democrats who will put things right.

"Vote Democrat or NO HEALTHCARE FOR YOU" will be a powerful slogan after no one can afford it anymore.

The plan to starve children on welfare in order to shame Republicans into compliance makes no sense after Dems and not Dems have spent years claiming that Republicans have no compassion for children.

There is no room for negotiation. Biden and Obama made it very clear during their administrations.

There has to be a continuing resolution first.... that's all the republicans are saying... the dems don't want to negotiate or they would open the government and sign the CR....

Mind you this a continuing resolution, simply kicking the can down the road, something democrats have vehemently supported under prior administrations, yet….its at the expense of the American people, those insignificant, uneducated individuals who just don’t know what’s best for them who voted for change. Go figure.

Trump tried to negotiate with them right before the shutdown. He was hesitant but he wanted to verify that the demands really were as outrageous as Johnson and Thune told him they were.

They were as advertised, and the Democrats left no room for any compromise.

Because they need this shutdown due to being afraid of AOC primary-ing Schumer or running against Jeffries for minority leader.
