My hometown was just chosen as a resettlement area 'refugees' by the International Rescue Committee. I hope our Government has enough respect for what this organization does to leave it alone and let it do it's job, or for that matter not co opt it for more deleterious motives. Thanks, Mr. Einstein.

Athens-Clarke County this year will begin welcoming an increasing number of refugees fleeing conflict in their native lands for a new home in the U.S.
The Atlanta office of the International Rescue Committee plans to open a sub-office in Athens by end of the year, and hopes to begin resettling refugee families in Athens as soon as October.

Opening an Athens outpost has been in the works for five years, said IRC Atlantic regional director Ellen Beattie. The organization has opened similar sub-offices in cities like Charlottesville, Va., and Lincoln, Neb.

College towns like Athens have an “international flavor” because of their worldly academic staff, and universities possess strong language resources that new refugee arrivals rely on, Beattie said.

For newly-arrived refugees, whose journey to the U.S. has been long and stressful, a smaller town makes for an easier transition.

“Small towns are more navigable,” Beattie said.

Beattie said IRC staff has already met with county, school and health department officials to prepare Athens for the refugees’ needs.
The Athens office, at first, will have one full-time staff member, soon increasing to two, and will bring in necessary support.

Beattie said between 120 and 150 people, roughly 40 families, will resettle in Athens in the first year. Most of these refugees will come from Myanmar and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Once the office is established, Beattie estimates a city of Athens size can handle up to 250 refugees, about 60 families, a year.

And before this gets out of hand, I was apprised elsewhere that the refugees will be from Myanmar and the DRC (Congo), not Illegals from the border (sorry, Mad Scientist, didn't see your post there). So be that as it may, that was a mistake on my part. The IRC is a reputable refugee placement organization founded by none other than Albert Einstein. The IRC, the only place where rescue travels faster than the speed of light.

Well, this will only be used as an excuse to dump more of those illegals on use by the federal government, since it can be easily assumed this crisis well last well past the end of this year. Thanks, Obama.

How is this "Thanks, Obama"? Was he the one who signed that Act (Wilberforce) in 2008? Does Obama head the IRC? What are you upset about, maybe it will actually help your local economy to some extent and provide more job opportunities for you.

I would have no problem if they relocated thousands of them here , I think it would help our economy and I think it's a good thing to do if people are in such a desperate situation that they would pack their children off to go to a foreign land so they can have a better opportunity to survive and then thrive.

more people=more tax revenue.....

First, read the edition, second, read the admission above your post.

And of course you wouldn't mind relocating them here, you don't care if we keep our borders or not. You simply don't care about that law.

This bears repeating...

These people are starving, TK. You can't keep all the Twinkies to yourself, you selfish prick.

Once again the far left talking points continue to drone on even though they have been debunked over and over.

I saw your edit, but I don't care if those refugees are from Africa or Central America.

Where did I state that I don't care if we "keep our borders or not"? In fact I believe that we should secure our borders , north and south.

Where did I state that I "don't care about that law"? What specific law are you referring to?

Oh brother! You mean just like when a 12 year old child earns money from a paper route they suddenly become co-equal with his parents in terms of supporting the family?

The metric which counts is net gain or loss over income over subsidy.

Adding 10,000,000 more taxpayers to society who each pay $100 in Federal Income Tax and suck up $30,000 in taxpayer subsidies isn't the right road for America to take.
