Most people donāt know that the fictional āPalestinianā identity originated in the British Mandate, which the British nicknamed āPalestine,ā a conventional European/Western term for the land of Israel. It dates back to Roman use, imposed on Jews and ancient Israel, intended to erase the Jewish heritage of the country. In British Mandate Palestine, all inhabitants, Christians, Muslims, Arabs, etc., and also notably Jews were designated as Palestinians, though Muslims rejected those names as Western inventions.
