A Friday evening meal at Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) for this year's Valentine's Day (tonight) is a nice way to celebrate the confluence of consumerism with culture.

After all, isn't consumption the new hallmark of holidays?

I took the Mrs. to a dive of a Chinese restaurant. The last time we went was 15 years ago and we never returned because they had no heat and it was freezing cold. The place is a dump, in need of repair, and a filthy mess.

Tonight... still no heat. Still a mess, mediocre food.

We had a blast.

Romance is what you make it. And it should be an adventure.
