USMB Script Warning before 'puter shut down.

Coincidence? This is the third time in 4 months that I had my computer shut down. Usually after seeing a PM and trying to get to private messages. Then my computer will not budge. Closing a browser is impossible. Unplug machine and poof: Death.

There are two alert windows open. One is behind the other. The one behind is an alert about a PM.

After a few death screens, I decided to use Safari once in a while as it keeps track of all cookies and more, and I am familiar on how to peek inside what the browser was doing last.

I get those all the time since i installed an Adobe 10 upgrade. I may have to turn in this Tandy TRS-80 computer, maybe for a Commodore 64

If it's san ADOBE issue, I'll scream!!!! The only software that ever crashed my old mac was a download from Symantec -- a security thing. go figure.

The other thing that caused me a severe headache was an issue with ADOBE and a Font Cache.

Then there is the coincidence of recently being at USMB late at night. Mild paranoia easily sets in when hanging around the truly paranoid on the internet(s)

I hate windows. But forms and scripts have injection issues. sigh

I am now learning how to trouble shoot a Windows PC and learn about the BSOD and more. Not fun. I miss my old mac, but I hear even they are now having issues.

Okay, so I fix my registry and teh 'puter crashes a few times. I defragg it too. Now I get a clean registry.

If it is a driver issue... sigh


I need to save all my various bookmarks. Where is the bookmark files stored?

Computer ignorance takes many forms. I never wanted to learn the technical aspects of how a computer works, or in Microsoft's case -- should wok. Being a tech repairman or a Windows network specialist is a job for the less bright in our society. It isn't like these jobs go to computer scientists or people that use the computer as a tool.

I've owned an Apple. Never had to look under the hood to do most things. Windows PCs? Most people haven't the time or inclination to learn what should be taken care of by an efficient and computer operating system.

but I'm a quick study and am becoming even more contemptible than I ever was of computer techs and networking techs. what a boring and drudge filled lives these people must lead.

The problem with most all browsers is they come with idiot default settings. Shit comes from techs who think the latest window dressing is necessary and even useful.

Why should I have to spend time learning how to turn off all the browser settings? why do browsers have to 'think' and interfere with typing by selecting words you 'might' want to type? then of course there is the shit that happens when going fast and the browser has selected phrases previously written and inserts them and ...

It is my opinion (and the opinion of others) that many programers and computer 'pros' are a useless lot who have made life more intolerable than necessary. smart technology is usually anything but smart.

Blame Microsoft because Windows fucking dies if it looks at a directory with too many files in it.

But I'm too lazy to learn Bash and make a true switch to Linux Mint. It's a great system, but it still requires where the files are stored and I just plain don't want to do that.

Depends. In IE, there's a favorites folder. Not in Firefox. Not sure about Safari.

now, Almost every network tech from a small to medium size company I've ever met is creepy beyond belief. Also, they get stuck thinking teh world is a logic machine. They lean towards randian nitwitticism as a religion, and they mistake knowledge of obscure technical know how is tantamount to intelligence. Most of what they know is taught at schools that specialize in teaching the not-too-bright skills to make them more able to produce for society and themselves. It's a sweet thing and beneficial. We all need the service economy. But these service technicians mistake what they do for more than it is.


and there are very few "truly a proficient network specialist(s)" if this were not so, the websites and info dedicated to assisting people in the most simplest of tasks of their jobs would not exist in such numbers. Every go to a tech site? gawd, a bunch of lunatics are running the asylum.

The structure of the internet needs technicians to keep it running smoothly. Think of network techs as car mechanics.

Network tech: Not an adventure, just a menial job.
