There is a mistrust of Artificial Intelligence these days and in particular AI information platforms. These programs can deep dive into issues quickly and accurately like nothing before them. I use them and find them useful. AI is a tool and nothing more. Now, whoever has control of the tool is a reason to watch it closely. One thing we should watch for is regulation that keeps the best AI tools in the wrong hands. If you are a writer, AI can be a timesaver and a guide. The danger is that AI will write for you, and you must guard against this. You need to develop a style that is recognizable and stay true to that style because AI has no style and if it does all the work for you, this will be seen.

I tell AI not to rewrite, but to evaluate like a college instructor would and give advice and pointers to avoid becoming predictable and marginalizing readers. I think this has worked well so far.

You're talking about "prompt engineering". How to get exactly what you want out of an AI, and nothing you don't want.

You need to be specific about what you want from it. It will go right to what you want if you ask the right questions in the right way.

Yes, the right question is the key. The most important points to remember about an Internet AI is:
They are programed to be friendly and helpful. That means:
  • They never say you are wrong. They will praise you for your insight and offer information that conflicts with your you statements.
  • They never say I don;t know. If you ask, what does the orange light on a deluxe widget control panel mean and they give a wrong answer, then they will apologize and give another answer often is qualified.
  • Lastly, they never know when to quit. They may say there is nothing published that answers your question but....
When it come answering questions, I consider AI to be an intelligent search engines.

I found the AI ability to rewrite documents astounding, correcting grammar, spelling, and changing the tone of the document.

Their ability to create documents is far less impressive. If I say |AI write a thousand word document explaining how or why....., I have to spend so much time giving the AI more information, it's not worth the time . I get best result when I write a number key point I want in the document. That greatly reduces rewrites.
