They usually boast of the accuracy of their prognoses but this time they failed so significantly that one might think democracy dies in darkness.
In my district the first prognosis got over 23 % for the AfD´s candidate running for major. But he ended up with only 16%. We can see that in every district: The more progress the vote count made, the lower the AfD result became. Over all, the AfD lost 2 % during the vote count: From 16,5 to 14,5 % in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Maybe flesh it out a bit more. I doubt if anyone (including myself) knows what you are talking about.

So who won, right-leaners or leftists?

We can say both won. While the old parties still have the upper hand, the AfD made significant progress. For example, the AfD got 1% in the last local election in my town and 16 % now. The rest is clear. There is something wrong with either the prognoses, the vote count, or the official result.
