The U.S. FARA (Foreign Agents Registration Act) shows that social media paid posters on behalf of the Israeli government must register with the U.S. government to convey political information.

Israel has contracted with a German media group to implement this campaign. I have personally met German posters on forums. Have you met them?

The link below is a formal complaint to the DOJ. It states that the social media influencers (Israeli paid posters) must also register, individually, as foreign agents.

I doubt if their names will show up any time soon, but it would be interesting to know their identities. Stay tuned....

The statute states that every person acting as a social media agent must identify himself or herself.

Except as hereinafter provided, every person who becomes an agent of a foreign principal shall, within ten days thereafter, file with the Attorney General, in duplicate, a registration statement, under oath on a form prescribed by the Attorney General.

Wasn't this the basis for the whole 2016 Russian election interference claim? Some claimed that Russians were not registered as foreign agents and should have been because they were typing social media posts. I think the FBI even tried to arrest a bunch of Russians in the US or something. But nothing came of it. Then I heard stories of trying to indict Russians residing in Russia (absentia).

Some claimed that Russians were not registered as foreign agents and should have been because they were typing social media posts. I think the FBI even tried to arrest a bunch of Russians in the US or something. But nothing came of it. Then I heard stories of trying to indict Russians residing in Russia (absentia).

They indicted around a couple dozen Russians citizens, but I don't remember anything after that. That whole segment was the proverbial nothing burger.

Relevance to social media or this forum?

Guess you have never visited the Israel/Palestine section of this very forum site then. Plenty of folks from Russia, China and all over posting the same old many times debunked lies in support of the Palestinian "cause". They often accuse Israel supporters of being part of the "hasbara", which in my experience with the left over the decades means that they themselves are certainly getting paid. The left are masters of self projection.
