This feels less like law and more like a tantrum dressed up as a lawsuit. Donald J. Trump threatening to sue Trevor Noah over a joke just screams legal illiteracy: satire and opinion are protected by the First Amendment, and public figures face a brutal defamation standard. No false statement of fact, no provable “actual malice,” no real damages..,so this dies at the pleadings.

Translation: lots of bluster, zero case, and a very short trip to dismissal.

It really doesn't matter. He's just going to threaten and intimidate anyone who tries to hold him accountable in any way.

And of course, that spreads to anyone else who would even consider it. So the lawsuit itself is damn near irrelevant.

That's not going to stop. It's a natural impulse for authoritarians, especially those who are hypersensitive like Trump.

Trump is simply being his usual childish self. It goes to show you just how lucky we are to have our Constitution. If this man were a dictator a lot of people would be rotting in prison over speech.

This has become a litigious society. Unfortunately it's Democrats and "Lawfare" that started it all.

Hilarious. Trump knows exactly what to say to rustle left wing panties.

Actually, Trump is a narcissistic ten year old child in a 80 year old man's body. You find it amusing because you're exactly the low human capital he caters to with the maturity level of a second grader. All you reveal with comments like that is how pathetic and weak you truly are.

An analysis from a graduate of the USMB law school.

Who is Trevor Noah?

Wasn't there a guy who was convicted for making a joke about "Democrats vote on wednesday" or something?

EDIT It was telling Democrats, they could vote by text. Apparently a huge number of them actually tried to do that.

I guess some jokes are more actionable than others, right,

Actually, Trumps felony crimes started it

Various commentators have argued that, prior to 2016, legal challenges, investigations, and regulatory actions were employed by Democrat lefist groups and politicians to disrupt conservative initiatives.
During the late 20th century, Democratic state attorneys general frequently used massive lawsuits against entire industries (such as the Master Settlement Agreement with Big Tobacco in 1998) to force national policy changes outside of Congress

TRump is a convicted felon
The only reason he got away with other felony charges was not because he was innocent but because he was elected President
