"‘Deeply illogical’: this man’s life work could end homelessness – and Trump is doing all he can to stop it"

"In the 1990s, Tsemberis began developing a simple idea: people living on the street want, and should have, safe housing with no strings attached. When you add accessible mental health and addiction services and caring, consistent case management, most stay housed. His research would bear out the idea, showing that Housing First results in at least 85% of people staying housed 12 or 24 months later, depending on the study. These are higher rates than any other approach that’s been studied."

"The idea was and still is not easy to implement because it depends on all the components being present: the apartments, the services and the committed case workers. It also requires believing that unhoused people “deserve” a place to live – a belief abhorrent to the Trump administration and most Maga conservatives."

"When Tsemberis got them back, there were red lines throughout. Among other things, a federal official had deleted sections referencing the idea that racially discriminatory government policy is one cause of homelessness, as well as the terms “harm reduction” and “trauma-informed”, and mentions of Tsemberis being the founder of Housing First. What’s more, the term “Housing First” was deleted throughout."

This is what Trump is all about, making money for the rich, a belief that the rich are somehow a superior group of people who deserve to make all this money and everyone else can go suffer. Why spend money on dealing with problems that you can point at and blame someone else for?

Governments can make the difference, in the US though, those politicians are the ones spreading the word that it's not their job to deal with anything other than enriching themselves.

Here's what Tsemberis can do. If his idea truly works, private donors would fight to be at the front of the line helping with land and donations. But if government involvement is always the requirement; that's the tell that this is yet another lefting scam.

Offhand, the problem I see with this is that it would be never ending. Whenever you put out freebies, an infinite number of hands will be out to grab them. Think SNAP. Think SSI.

Most Homelessness = Drug Abuse

People need to get clean and want to stay clean before they are helped in other areas. If they don't then it's useless to help them in any other way, and they'll end up back out the street regardless of what you give them. Most of these people have family that cares about them, they are the author of their own misery.

Do us all a favor:
The next time you see a homeless person on the street, ask them to get in your car and come home with you.

SLEEPY JOE...DID A MUCH BETTER JOB HELPING THE HOMELESS.

So, government is shit, so.... don't let it do anything.....??

Maybe if you stopped electing dickheads, then government wouldn't be so bad.

Maybe if you educated yourselves about Proportional Representation, you'd get a govt that could do something other than screw people over.

Exactly. There ARE some actual hard luck stories that exist but most of those people are homeless because they are unemployable... due to mental illness or drug use, and then only after exhausitng people within their social networks.. family, friends..etc who refuse to take them in.

Somehow liberals in government THINK you can throw a check at those same people... GIVE them a place to stay and they wont F' it all up.
Its because they dont recognize the cause of homelessness in the first place or they are lying to themselves.

Common sense trumps bleeding hearts and pie-in-the-sky.
Nicely done. 👍

Then again, I do not deny there are many actual hard luck stories where maybe some of those people do need a hand up and might take it. Most of those people though are willing to reach out and take advantage of programs. They are not the ones living on the streets year after year.
Even the founder of Paul Mitchel hair products.. multi millionaire was forced to live out of his car for a while.

Absolutely. A caring society should be there for them. A hand up, not a handout.
But as your previous post brilliantly pointed out, that is often not the case.

15th post
And the end to back and forth politics !

I was a homeless VET for 9 months hearing voices and got into a GOV program that got me back on my feet. I got lucky because the manager liked me and I now own a home.

Oh yeah...there were 9 other people be hind me waiting to get in.

I don't elect leftwingers who are the ones making government bad.
See, no government program EVER goes away, ever gets small, or ever gets more efficient. They all grow like tumors.
Better not to start most government program in the first place.

Meh, the homeless are not an issue for places that move them on as soon as they are reported.

That's how it works in my AO.....The old Bum's Rush.

A bunch of leftist bitches were trying to get a homeless shelter in my town....That shit got shot down in a hot hurry because every sane person knows that "build it and they will come".
