IMO, this stems from the same place as those folks who want to mutilate themselves trying to be another gender, anorexics, and bulimics.

These poor folks literally cannot, and do not, have a realistic view of their physical bodies.

I remember when I was little and first heard of surgeries for sex changes and physical alterations.
I became enamored with it and watched all I could about it on PBS.

And a BIG difference between then and now is..............

people wanting elective "life changing" surgeries HAD to go through at least ONE YEAR of mental health therapy before being allowed to get said surgeries. Nowadays they don't. I don't know when that stopped, but if it was still medical practice to deny anyone that didn't get the OK from a mental health therapist for this today.........it wouldn't be such a big trillion dollar industry.
