This Man's Navy (1945)

I finished it a few minutes ago on TCM....Wallace Beery was the star. I had never seen it before.



It's about the Navy's LTA Airships (blimps). Lots of neat footage from the era and it's pretty entertaining.

I had never seen it and I like Wallace Beery. Never saw him in too many leading roles I could recall other than The Champ, mostly in supporting roles like Treasure Island.

The Champ was his greatest role and won an academy award for it. He was a huge star in silent films making over hundred films, starting in 1915. However, most of them have been lost. He had a hard time transiting to sound but made a number of movies in the 30's. His popularity fell in the late 30's but he came back in the 40's.

It's said that he was hard to get along with on set often arguing with directors and actors. And he walked away from several movies.

If you like movies like this from the 40's, you might want to check out "The Best Years of Our Lives", a movie about 3 servicemen returning home. It won 9 academy awards.
