Be careful what you wish for

Trump was elected to rid the country of illegal immigrants
ICE is hitting farms and rounding up,workers
American workers just can’t cut it.

I’ve employed Americans, and they quit after a few days,” lamented Wisconsin Tracy Vinz, “They quit after a few hours.”

Georgia produce farmer Mitch Lawson claimed he "lost nearly two dozen American employees before he qualified for $200,000," with Lawson stating, "I’ve had a couple who didn’t even last a whole day."

Many operations are beginning to move toward automation anyway.

Speaking only for myself, I do thoroughy enjoy going apple and peach picking in the orchards, even though I have my own trees here.

Have some cider...go on a hayride...stuff like that. Yee haw...

'merikans would rather be attached to the illusion that mexicans = worthless thugs that either are criminals, or lazy welfare vermin.

& here we are. donny changed direction after bigfarma raised their dismay.... but dead eye dick, stephen miller, was louder & their chosen one seems to have changed his mind, yet again.

Picking a half bushel of apples with your kids is not the same as having to pick dozens of bushels

So how did Americans eat before illegal immigration? How does any nation eat unless they all have illegal slave labourers?

My boy is grown now. I do it just for the fun of it. I'm still a bit of a child at heart myself.

But, yes, it is different.

That's why I'd mentioned about the increasing automation infrastructure. Think that only requires one qualified machine operator per machine.

says a lot about Americans, doesn't it?

what do you suggest?

allow criminals carte blanche to pick produce?

But it gets worse…

American farmers can’t find workers to pick their crops.
Importing produce from Mexico carries a hefty tariff

What is the consumer to do?

So quit your job and do it for less than minimum wage.

WTF...not only are these farmers getting cheep labor the government is giving them grants to "cover" the cost of hiring illegals...F-that, maybe trying paying US workers more and they won't quit.
...And there you have the issue, right there.
Plenty of labor for a $20 an hour job...not so much for 10 or 11.

Of course, passing those costs on to the consumer is a non-starter when you are competing with those who still have the advantage of cheap labor.
Like Mexico, for example,

Very good question Shocked. It exposes more liberal BS. Before Biden's immigrant rape of the country, farm work was accomplished by the illegals already here. We did not need any more help to get the job done.

well, yeah..but construction likes cheap labor, as does food processing plants and the Dairy industry.
Everyone likes cheap produce--and cheap food.
This is an age-old problem...and shipping all the good-paying jobs off-shore did not help.

Automation costs $$$$$$$$$$
If farmers could afford automation, they would have moved to Beverly.
