It takes at least 12 months to mount a successful presidential campaign and there's only 4 months left and Biden hasn't quit yet. Every day he drags this out makes the next candidate weaker. He also controls the pile of campaign cash. That can only transfer directly to the VP so if not Kamala that's an issue.

Biden is done but I don't think Newsome will fight for the job but will take it if they beg him. I think he suspects that both Biden and Kamala Harris would lose to Trump and he might even lose too. So, he's going to wait in the wings for 2028 because he himself doesn't even believe Trump will take democracy away. If democrats ditch Harris for Newsome they will be in a world of hurt.
