Back when the Russia/Ukraine war started we saw a lot of realistic looking video game footage being passed around on the web and pawned off as real video of warfare and a lot of people bought it, particularly the elderly, but now with this AI stuff, you just never can know for sure.

Back in the 90's when reality shows were the new things, the format gradually made its way into mainstream news, not just entertainment. As a result, people became conditioned for gullibility and could sort out truth from drama anymore. This has become ever more layered and complicated since then. Now it's a real problem, as even intelligent people have difficulty discerning it with the level and stealth that AI is being used in some cases. Something can be 99% real but it's that 1% that slips under the radar which swings the whole story this way or that.
