Anyone who has done Fasting knows it's not easy. Especially Day 2 and 3. But the benefits are more than guesswork today. Major and well accepted health organizations now recognize fasting as very beneficial to health.

Benefits include weight loss, less fatigue, more energy, clearer thinking and fasting can even facilitate ridding the body of carcinogens and waste.
In many studies, fasting has proven effective in fighting cancer since cancer must have glucose to thrive and significantly lowering blood sugar can have a positive impact on fighting cancer.

Personally, I like to Fast at least twice a year. My last was in October and it was a 5 day fast. Nothing but water. So I'm due for my next 5 day fast in April.
I lost 15 lbs during my October fast (some water of course), but fasting always results in feeling better overall with less bodily inflammation and clearer thinking and memory.
If you suffer from aches and pains fasting could help.

Of course, fasting can be harmful under certain circumstances so you might want to consult your physician before embarking on any fasting.

That said, if you choose to Fast you can join me in April or let us know about your fasting and results. Fasting is difficult and sometimes chatting with others during a fast can help reduce the stress and discomforts.
 
I don't fast, but twice a year I hold a blow torch to the palm of my hand. I find that to be just as appealing as fasting, and I don't get as hungry.
 
Sometimes I skip dinner... I will have toast in the morning something light for lunch then nothing till the next morning but I've never gone for days without eating...
 
5 days with no food? Too extreme for me. When I was dieting a few years back, one meal a day was hard enough lol
 
I 100% agree with your regimen and have read of the health benefits of doing so.

If I leave you with one thing to think about in regards to fasting, think about this.

If you do a 7 day water only fast (no eating but a hot bone broth soup is allowed) you reduce your chances of getting cancer by up to 60% or even 70%.

Why? Your body underwent under a deep healing and detoxifying process, abnormal cells that can mutate into cancer were eaten and disposed of by heathy cells during this period.
 
What people need most regarding fasting is inspiration (as well as education). There is no more inspiring work on the subject than Paul C. Bragg's "Miracle of Fasting". There are some outdated ideas, but it is a must-read for the beginning faster. Available on Amazon books.

Most experienced fasters lose that hunger on the second day or so. Hunger is experienced if one doesn't confine themselves to bed during the fast. Physical activity requires energy and strength, both of which are needed by the body for the cleansing process and shouldn't be spent on other activities.

Seems like you’d have to do that periodically, or abnormal cells would begin to form again. Any reports on whether once a year is sufficient?
 
Our bodies are like a sponge, soaking up all sorts of impurities all the time thus the need for periodic housecleaning.
But how often? Is my once a year fast on Yom Kippur sufficient?

The thing is, once your body is fat adapted, the need for extreme fasts, those lasting more than 36 hours, become less and less necessary.

Usually, a fast of 24 to 36 hours every three or four months are sufficient to keep the body's housekeeping system in good shape. It also becomes much easier to fast when your body has converted to burning fat as fuel.
 
I'll have to fast in April because I have a colonoscopy scheduled.

Who knows. Many live a long healthy life without ever fasting. I think if you have a sound, healthy lifestyle there's little need to fast. I haven't done a prolonged fast in many years, but I feel that I need one now.

Back in the 1970's I did a three-day complete fast after a series of several one-day fasts. I had also abstained from alcohol and coffee. I was never more miserable in my life during that fast, especially when the remnants of some antihistamines I had taken earlier came out. I came out of it a new person physically, mentally and spiritually.

Reminds me of the guy who was polishing his glass eye and accidently swallowed it. His doctor used a colonoscopy scope to try and retrieve it. When he finally found it he joked, "This is the first butt hole I've ever looked up that looked back at me."

First your body burns the glucose in your blood.
Second it burns the glucose in your muscles.
Third it burns the glucose in your liver.
Only after you have burned all of your glucose you can start burning your fat.
After you have burned off all of your body fat, you start burning muscles, and that is what the starvation is.
So, it takes about 24-48 hours of fasting to burn off all of your glucose and then you can start burning fat.
You can use Keton Test Strips to check if you are burning fat.

Is unlikely that much fat is burned during an average fast. In fact, not all of the sucrose is even burned.

Interesting.

I went to a vegan health spa for a week, and they offered me a “colonic cleansing” to augment my program. Not sure what that involved - probably a enema - but whatever, I didn’t like the sound of it, so I passed.

Instead, I just stayed with the vegan food, so there was no meat, no dairy, no alcohol, no coffee, no soda, and so forth. I was never much of a drinker, but the coffee withdrawal - oh man. But I stuck it out, and by the end of the week I felt great.

I remember walking through the airport on the return, and it felt like I had been implanted into someone else’s body.
