The courts have protected trump in ways I previously didn't think possible.

And I don't mean just the transparently political ways his Supreme Court has.

The New York state judge presiding over Donald Trump’s hush money case pushed the GOP candidate’s sentencing until past the November election, saying in a Friday order that the upcoming election had played a role in his decision.

ā€œThe members of this jury served diligently on this case, and their verdict must be respected and addressed in a manner that is not diluted by the enormity of the upcoming presidential election,ā€ wrote Judge Juan Merchan in a letter.

Merchan set a new sentencing date for November 26.

After a jury found Trump guilty on 34 felony counts in May, Merchan had initially set a sentencing date for July 11. But, as he wrote in the Friday letter, the Supreme Court’s expansive decision that presidential actions are largely beyond the reach both of criminal prosecution and of being used as evidence in a criminal case has caused him to delay sentencing. Almost immediately after the Supreme Court’s July 1 decision, Trump filed a motion to dismiss based on the ruling. Merchan said in Friday’s letter that he would issue his decision about that motion on November 12.

Throughout the case, Merchan very consciously sought to appear free of political influence. During the trial, he consistently gave Trump and his legal team the benefit of the doubt. Merchan took a light hand after Trump disparaged witnesses in the case on social media; at another point, Merchan interrupted the testimony of Stormy Daniels after Trump’s defense counsel failed to lodge an objection during a particularly salacious moment.

Judge Delays Trump’s New York Sentencing Until After Election

Judge Chutkan had it right when she said, and repeated recently, the election should have no bearing on the schedule for the case she is presiding over.

Then we get........ā€œThe members of this jury served diligently on this case, and their verdict must be respected and addressed in a manner that is not diluted by the enormity of the upcoming presidential election,ā€ wrote Judge Juan Merchan in a letter.

If I were a conspiracy theorist I'd wonder if trump's goons got to Merchan. Cuz I can't make any sense out of what he wrote. If you want to respect the work of the jury then impose the damn sentence. Some of the people involved braved attacks by trump's thugs and this is the thanks they get?

Between what the conservative supremes, Cannon, and now Merchan have done it makes a mockery of equal justice under the law. It also makes trump's complaints about unfair treatment a pathetic ruse.

Merchan's hesitancy in sentencing has the SC's bizarre immunity ruling's fingerprints all over it.

Justice absorbed another blow today as did the republic.

He doesn't want the fake convictions to be thrown out before the election.

It's not just the courts. The whole national media runs cover for Trump.

Evidence? They don't make Trump's obvious dementia the lead story every day.

The convictions were decided on by a jury based on the evidence after trump had every opportunity to persuade the jury of his innocence. If anything Merchan may not have wanted to allow Trump's SC to meddle with his sentencing before the election.

You shouldn't post when your high. It makes people laugh.

Since you missed it, Merchan's ruling favors Harris. If he sentenced Trump before the election, the election would have been a landslide for Trump

Based on what? How trump has duped the rubes in to thinking he is a victim? Even after the courts continue to give him undeserved deference.

Yup. THose "rubes" vote. In cease you've missed it, every time your cult indicted, convicted him, fucked him over, his poll numbers go up, way up.

America has grown sick and tried of your cult's lawfare. And Merchon recognized that.

You have a decent case. The national media parsed every word that came out of Biden's mouth after his awful debate performance. The coverage was everywhere. Yet trump has given any number of incoherent answers to questions at media events exposing his mental decline. Not that he ever had a grasp of the issues but these rambling, non-answers were particularly disjointed and confused.

The thing is, there are so many stories about trump's lack of qualifications to be prez none of them get the attention they deserve. Every day it's on to the next example of buffoonery.

How odd that you would use the cult-like behavior of loving a felon even more after a conviction in defense of the rube's blind devotion.

Pssst. It's not love for Trump, it's disgust with your cult for resorting to third world banana republic tactics of jailing your political opponents.

Yeah, yeah, heard it before. Your cultish behavior necessitates that you accuse Dems of being in a cult. Criminals are criminals whether they are on the other side of the political spectrum or not. Jailing them depends on the evidence and a jury verdict. You remember evidence, right? It's what you didn't have while making accusations about Joe Biden. It's what was presented to grand juries before trump was indicted............four times.

No, he did not have ā€œevery opportunityā€ to establish his innocence.

Maybe most importantly, he was not allowed the opportunity to call an expert to counter the jailhouse snitch that the prosecution bizarrely used as a quasi-expert on campaign law.

Instead the jury was instructed on the law by Mikey ā€œthe ratā€ Cohen violating Trump’s right to attorney-client privilege and by Mr. Merchan who gave them absurdly convoluted instructions allowing them a Chinese menu style list of crimes they could guess that Trump might be guilty of.

Meanwhile, his daughter was enriched by Democrat politicians through her shell company.

Yeah. Thank God the Democrats are protecting us from the scourge of accountants characterizing invoices from lawyers as invoices from lawyers. I know that was at the top of my concerns for the country.

I'm trying to figure out the spin when his conviction gets reversed. "BUT HE WAS STILL CONVICTED!"

Right, like I said, he doesn't want the fake convictions thrown out before the election.

No, he did not have ā€œevery opportunityā€ to establish his innocence.
Yes he did. More of an opportunity than 99% of defendants due to his wealth and status as a former prez. The evidence of his guilt was overwhelming. That and only that is why he was convicted.

Rationalize and mischaracterize the outcome of the trial all you want if that's what you need to do to justify your support of a criminal. It's easy to see through.
