This is a pistol that shoots a .68 cal ball shaped round and is effective to 60 feet. With the approval of the Byrna gun and successful use already demonstrated by some Police Departments there is no reason they shouldn't be fully deployed and dump the flawed Taser weapon system.

Reasons for Byrna Adoption:
  • Less-lethal alternative: Provides a safer option for situations where lethal force is not necessary.

  • Effective range: Can disable a threat from up to 60 feet away.

  • De-escalation tool: Can be used to gain compliance from suspects without causing serious injury.

  • Training: Byrna resembles a firearm, allowing for easy transition between lethal and less-lethal options during training.

  • Community safety: Helps officers manage situations and protect themselves and the public.
While Byrna is not a firearm, it is considered a powerful and effective less-lethal weapon by many law enforcement agencies.

So it's a gun that will puncture the skin but won't kill? Dont beanbag guns do that? I bet you at some point an officer will fire the wrong gun, remember that female cop who thought she was firing her taser but it was her firearm? I think the guy died. I hope the gun feels amd looks quote different to ensure they aren't confused, either ways.

The home defense gun is all orange but the LE version looks like a pistol. It more stopping power than a beanbag gun and is called "less lethal" because it doesn't penetrate the skin but in some rare instances could possibly kill.

It's only a pepperball gun. It doesn't have the capability of shorting out the nervous system like a taser does, nor will it permanently stop an attacker like three rounds of 9mm JHP to the chest.

The taser has way too many limitations and fails frequently especially in winter when people have thick clothing on. And like the Byrna gun can't be called non-lethal because people have died from being Tased.

Why? Are the criminals throwing away their glocks and AK's?
If it approved and not considered a lethal weapon, I can see where all the citizens of the states that have made in almost impossible or highly expensive to own and carry a fire arm legally, should buy out the inventory to defend themselves, when their state governments only side with criminal having guns. It would give them some defense.
Police forces should choose their own, as they see fit. I see no advantage to the Byrna gun for Law Enforcement.

I don't think you even read the title. I said replace Tasers with the Byrna gun, not their lethal guns.

Why would they aim for the eye?

They wouldn't intentionally aim for the eye. But low-powered CO2 projectiles traveling at 300 fps aren't all that accurate. All you could do is aim for center mass and hope you don't get sued for making the offender a cyclops for the rest of his life.

No 'effing way would any cop trade in lethal for a Nerf Gun.

Nah ... There's a much simpler answer.
Stop prosecuting police for doing their job and watch all the shit disappear in a hurry. This kind of gentler enforcement bullshit only leads to the encouragement of the criminal minded predatory human.

I can see day to day maintenance being a huge issue. Co2 cartridges are prone to leaking once the seal is broken.....Installed improperly and they fail. Just a piece of dirt between the cartridge and the seal ring will cause problems.

And let's face it, as general rule cops are not much on weapon maintenance.

What's wrong with this picture?

So, not replacing the pistol but a replacement for a Taser. Now thats interesting. It does have drawbacks though.

Byrna guns are already being adopted and used successfully by some Police departments. Sixty foot effective range, what's a Tasers' effective range 20 feet? How do they work when perps are wearing winter clothes? They don't.
