on August 15 = Assumption of Mary in heaven

here it is the custom to bring flowers to church to have them blessed.

Is it only a European costum, or is it known in the US as well?

It's Europe. If I'm not mistaken, that old custom has been replaced by the Blessing of the AK-47s.

Ze Bra spouting Cult and Pagan crap .
Our old pal St Herbert is far more important than his Nazi-Pagan nonsense

Saint Herbert of Derwentwater (died 20 March 687 and known as Big Herb ) was an Anglo-Saxon hermit who lived on the small St Herbert's Island in Derwent water , Cumbria , England.
He became rich by later inventing the Lottery and swimming costumes .
Herb the Herb lived as a Herm .

.

Feast of the Assumption! I knew that, but I didn't know about the Blessing of the Flowers. I am an herbalist, so I will have to check this out.

Must have been supremely important to Saint Rose of Lima!

This blessing was partly forgotten in Germany, but it has been revived,

especially in Gengenbach in the Black Forest 🌹🌹🌹

Google tells me that this Catholic tradition also exists in the US in some parishes.
.

Wonderful! Thanks for sharping that.

In my church, we have a group of the folks who attend daily Mass and once a week we have a discussion group after Mass, and I shared this today. They are always happy to learn about traditions that they never knew about before.

Maybe we can ask Father if he'd consider installing this tradition in our church.
