Firstly, I don't usually get lured in by those Black Friday Internet sales.

But I saw that my K&N oil filter was half price on their web site.

Normally it's $17.99 at the brick and mortar as well as on their web site. Same price. So, then, the sale was 50% off which made it $9.00.

I was like Oh Boy! That's a good deal! But..then you have to type in your address and name and all of that so they can figure out the shipping cost.

I figured, meh...it's probably not more than about $5.00 or so to ship it, and even that's high in my view to ship an oil filter, but I'd still save around three or four bucks.

$12.59 to ship it. What?

So that made it $21.59....from $9.00.

But wait...there's more. If I spend even more money and buy three at the sale price of $9.00 for $27.00 total they'll ship it for free. So that tells me that they do have some kind of control over their shipping fees.

So it went from luring me in with $9.00 to $21.59 to $27.00.

Basically it was just kind of a bait and switch to get me to spend as much as possible on what I wanted...and in the latter scenario (buying 3) didn't want.

I cancelled it went around to the brick and mortar parts store like I should have done in the first place and like I usually do and just bought it for the regular price of $17.99.

After their Black Friday sale is over I'm gonna check back on their web site and see how much they want for shipping at the regular cost of the filter just to see if the $12.59 shipping cost dropped just out of curiosity.

And today I'm getting my email spammed out the wazoo from the manufacturer's own web site. Jiminy freakin crickets...

You can have that Internet Black Friday stuff...

LOL....Well at least they remembered your name. :laughing0301:

I prefer to be just nobody.

The only names I like to see remembered are the names of the people who tend to like to count their own names. Because you know...what comes around goes around. Always. :113:

The thing you're not grasping is that in another 5K mi. you are going to spend another $18 and another $18 5K mi after that for a total of $54---hmmmm, I think $27 is the better choice.

Yeah, but I only put around 500 miles a year on the particular car. It's not a daily driver, it's a toy.

So it would take me 10 years, give or take to even put another 5K on it.

But, yes, if it were a daily driver I would agree.

Anyway. I think that ultimately I just wonder if a lot of the shipping costs are manipulated by the vendors and not actually what the shipping companies charge them.

Depends in the deal they have cut with the shipper be it USPS, UPS, etc.

The other day I mailed an 8oz package at the PO by Ground Advantage to MI.....$8.00!

Now had I sold an 8 oz item on eBay and shipped it to MI it would have been around $4.65 if I generated the shipping label through eBay.

eBay has a deal with USPS that offers eBay sellers cheaper shipping options. This deal includes a shipping discount of up to 30% off standard USPS prices, making it a cost-effective choice for shipping items on eBay.
