The beauty within Religion

Religion has given us horrible depths and wonderous highs, including great works of art.

I thought I would start a thread to celebrate that art - be it music, archetecture or artwork.

I'm starting with Islam. One of the graduate students in our program comes from Isfahan, Iran. Iran is something the popular media prefers to portray as grim...yet, in it is also a treasure trove of great beauty dedicated to God...it is difficult to believe human beings created these works.

I think art is something that can reach out and strike anyone. The creation of beautiful things isn't unique to any culture, religion, or society. We're all joined together by being passengers on this rock we call Earth.

The Basilica of St. Mary in Washington D.C.

It's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. But you have to try really hard to ignore the blonde haired blue eyed Jesus that's staring down at everyone.
