If top executives and major shareholders of corporations succeed in reducing wages of their employees to third world levels, then people won't be able to purchase as nearly as many goods and services from the corporations as they do now. That will cause sales to fall, which will quickly drive many corporations into bankruptcy due to negative economies of scale. The corporations which manage to survive will be much smaller.
That means that tax revenues will be greatly reduced, so governments won't be able to build the fleet of spaceships which is needed to protect earth from being hit by asteroids.
