A divided Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected the Trump administration’s request to keep billions of dollars in foreign aid approved by Congress frozen.

However, the court did not immediately say when the money must be released, allowing the White House to continue to dispute the issue in lower courts.

The ruling was 5-4.

Told you folks, Roberts isn't going to surrender his major questions doctrine to Trump. USAID money is back to being spent.

They tend to come down the way they think it will ultimately be decided. If they thought the case would go the other way, they would have allowed Trump to continue to hold the money hostage pending the outcome.

Maybe Mikey can pass a new law that freezes the USAID money and puts USAID under the State Department to backstop Trump's EOs?

Someday, maybe.

The lower court has to issue the order, not the SCOTUS. When it does I am sure the WH will try to take it back to the SCOTUS but "We ain't paying people for work already done" isn't a good look for Donnie or the SCOTUS if that is how it shakes out in the end.

It was only for a specific reason. The $1.9 billion was for work that had already been done. People wanted to be paid. Seems reasonable. The other stuff is just plain waste, fraud and abuse. Not many will fight that.

The Constitution tells the president what he does, and it tells Congress what they do, and the laws created with the Constitution are being followed when it says the president is not the king and he may not redirect funds without Congressional authority.

:dunno:

You don't understand the ruling. This is not really a win for the left. All they ruled was that any monies already authorized by Congress and those services were already performed, those providing those services legally deserved to be paid. If the services have not already been provided then the money can be stopped and the ruling doesn't apply to anything in the future.
