The Commission president’s comment follows an assertion by U.S. President Donald Trump that NATO countries should shoot down Russian jets that violate their airspace. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Wednesday that the option of shooting down a fighter jet that is intruding into NATO airspace is “on the table.”

Von der Leyen’s comment comes after multiple Russian incursions into NATO countries this month, including in Poland, Romania and Estonia, which have put the continent on high alert.

My opinion is we have to defend every square centimeter of the territory,” von der Leyen said in an interview with CNN. “That means if there is an intrusion in the airspace, after warning, after being very clear, of course the option of shooting down a fighter jet that is intruding our airspace is on the table.

It is about damn time. Putin is probing and has to stop. Meet force with force.

We could eventually reach WWIII.

It will straighten the world up quickly and it will be all on the feet of Putin. That will be his legacy. Reviled for centuries.

I doubt it. Putin is a bluffer, and he's bluffing now. He's seeing how far he can push, and then will pull back.

For a country struggling in the Ukraine, he does not want to go to war with another country. Poland is stronger than the Ukraine was at the start of the war, and Poland is just one country among many in the EU.

Whether he wants it or not. Whether he is bluffing or not. His friends in China and N Korea are going to have to decide just how much they are willing to risk if Putin starts WWIII

China is in a difficult situation.

A) It wants Taiwan first
B) It relies on the West for money

So, a war would seriously hurt China right now, and its leader is suffering at home, and doesn't need more problems.

North Korea would probably help out, but really, they're weak and probably don't want to lose a significant chunk of its army, as this would weaken control at home.
