I was thunking...if I lived in california right now, with the fire danger...how would I prep for it?

Fill the Trucks gas tank.
Listen for any news on the fires.
Go for a quick walk...can I see or smell any smoke?

Then I would do some of what I call pre-prep.
Start looking around for things I want to save (papers, pictures, medications, etc) and put them in paper grocery bags & leave by the front door.

Cloths, water, food, etc in bags...leave by the front door.

Wallet & keys in my pocket.

Now I would be ready to throw it all in my truck & drive away in a moments notice.

Keep an eye on where the fires are. Maybe go for a drive & keep my eyes open on what's going on.

I may throw everything in the truck before I went to sleep...just to be on the safe side.

Sorry but no way would I live in California. About 30 years ago I would not have even thought twice about it.
There are better places.

Agreed...but there's no reason to not use this as a learning experience.

It could save you from burning to death some day...no matter where you live.

I managed to live through my house becoming an ash heap.

Man that would suck!

Bet it would have been easier if you had saved a few of the most important items.

Actually that's not really prepping. Prepping is when you stick it out for the duration. That's an escape plan.

Asbestos underwear to protect the family jewels.

And a bugout bag: Spare magazines, high-intensity rechargable Li-Ion flashlight, a good knife, paracord, combat-application tourniquet and other first aid stuff, a key for opening water faucets outside of buildings. Many of those faucets don't have handles any more.

Other stuff too, but I'd have to look in mine and I forgot what all I have in there.

Pre load that truck with anything you might want to take with you.

If a firestorm hits you have ZERO time to load up.

Yup...no argument here...except alot of things you would be hesitant to put in the truck cuz they might get stolen...you may have the desire to keep them in the house.

In that case...at the very least have them in bags at the front door ready to go. You'd have a better shot at saving them than you would looking around your house at the last minute...and they would still be INSIDE your house.

I have a serious question for you. Can you legally transport your spare magazines without them being locked somewhere separate from your firearm?

Or considering the circumstances, do you just say the hell with it?

You may legally transport any spare magazines you want.

Never heard that one before. If that's some kind of weird state law, it sure doesn't apply to the one I live in.

Oh, my mistake, I thought you were in California. That was a law before the following SCOTUS ruling found California's discretionary issuance of concealed carry permits to be unconstitutional:

The Supreme Court case that effectively struck down California's discretionary issuance of concealed carry permits was New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen, decided on June 23, 2022. While the case directly addressed New York's restrictive gun laws, the decision had nationwide implications, including in states like California.

It would be a good idea to think NOW about first priority items, 2nd priority items (etc etc) that you would want to take with you.

IMHO the top priority items would be things you can't function without. Glasses, ID, wallet, medications, Latest bank statement.

Being a "refugee" without an ID or credit card could be quite difficult!

Then think of what would be your next highest priority...
