- a black person was worth 3/5 of a white person
- women are not equal to men - they do not qualify to vote
Trump Republicans are looking to make sure we follow the original principles of our Constitution.
Wow...our education system really failed you. Land owners could only vote, because they were the only ones with skin in the game. If a women owned land, she could vote, there were plenty of widows voting, obviously not a majority of them. But women being prohibited from voting is a myth.
The 3/5s ruling was a ruling that HURT the slavery states, it wasn’t because they were such racist they felt the need to announce publicly that slaves were 3/5 a person. Slave owners wanted the population of their slaves to be counted in their House of Representatives representation. This would have given slavery states more congressmen even though part of their “constituency” were freaking slaves who couldn’t even vote. So they would’ve got more power in Congress than they should have. It would’ve been waaaay better had that ruling decided that slaves counted as 0/5 of a person.
