With the Nancy Guthrie story much in the news over the past few weeks, I've thought of the movie Ransom! starring Glenn Ford that I watched oh so long ago. To his wife's anguish Ford's character uses the ransom money intended for the return of his son as a reward to catch the kidnappers. Ron Howard made a remake of the film in the late 1990's, but I don't remember much about that one.
When I went to IMDB to look at the year the original came out I read through the trivia which says that Leslie Nielsen made his film debut in the movie. His straightlaced serious role became what I was used to seeing Nielsen play throughout the years. His totally opposite comedic appearance in Airplane! made that film all that much funnier.
