JohnDB you're a regular person so you probably can help me out with this question too, but why is it that a lot of Baptists only see the Old Testament/wrath of God and completely forget about the New Testament/redemption part. I'm dying to know because I would go to a Baptist church myself if it wasn't for this fact. That, and I think that they believe in immersion only and I don't. Especially since I was sprinkled before I left the United Methodist Church.

I don't think that's necessarily true. There are Fire and Brimstone centered Baptist preachers but all Baptist preachers aren't like that, and there are non-Baptist preachers who are that way.

The belief about baptism in the Baptist Church isn't so much about immersion or sprinkling- its more about whether babies ought to be baptized or not.

Just curious what your thoughts are on being Lutheran?

I never thought that babies should be as baptism to me is a conscious decision to follow Jesus Christ and babies cannot make that decision.

I don't know anything about it.

Baby "Baptisms" are not really Baptisms....
It's one of those largely misunderstood things.
These baby Baptisms are Christenings....or naming ceremonies where the child is given their name and the community and parents are charged before God with raising the child to know all about God and Jesus...

And the spot Jesus himself was baptized in the Jordan River is only shin deep. The Baptist fascination with complete immersion is kinda nuts IMHO....it's tradition moreso than accuracy although they argue about it as if its fact.

It's not the water that baptizes you it's what's in your heart. I never understood the big fuss about this either. I'm really glad to see that not all Baptists think the same as it's silly. I'm sort of scared to go to another Baptist church though as those people were scary and like I said in my OP, they spent ninety percent of their time preaching about the OT and only ten percent of the NT. It's no wonder that I used to think that God was just plain scary.

The offer of redemption was never explained to me properly... Until He did Himself when I was an adult and yes I'm one hundred percent serious btw. I literally asked Him if you're so loving then why do you send good people to Hell and He told me that He doesn't send anybody to Hell, they send themselves there. He's trying to protect us by giving us the Savior as He wants everybody to go to Heaven, but if people reject His offer there isn't much He can do since nobody is good but Jesus Christ.

No He didn't tell me this aloud, as He communicates with me telepathically mostly, but that was the first time in my life I ever heard the gospel told to me like that and not being scared into having a relationship with Him. I find it the equivalent of somebody offering you a million dollars with no catch whatsoever. Just accept it and it's yours. That's how I see Jesus now and salvation.

Many places in the world are quite arid and finding enough water to completely immerse someone, and most of the Jordan River is relatively shallow most of the time. Considering the fact that Peter et al baptized 3000 on Pentecost- immersion was pretty much out of the question.

If the water in the Jordan is deep enough for immersion, you would be risky life and limb to try and immerse with such high, fast moving waters.

Well, I don't know about fast moving current.....that's a stretch. But at flood stage it definitely would be neck deep at a minimum.

Ceremonial Bathing required for it to flow either by a spring (such as fed the miqvehs at the Temple) or in a river. Which is where John The Baptist stationed himself right at the southern edge of Samaritan territory and North of Judah's territory....

There's a Kibbitz on the location today. Kinda low cost and a nice, peaceful place with lots of flowers. Very nice.
