Red State! Amen.
Putin is now alleged to be plotting a Russian strike on Ukrainian nuclear power plant LINES.

Among many issues/serious problems this poses, the one I’m most concerned about (short term) is that it might deny that Ukrainian power plant the necessary electrical power to run it safely. I wonder if the brain surgeons plotting this attack are at all concerned about causing a damn meltdown?

But my first question is this: are we (ie, the United States) likely to do anything about this vile threat from that pustule, Putin? Should we do anything? Would a decision not to do anything serve to encourage Putin the putz?

So the Russians are going to destroy the power sources for an off-line reactor that they occupy. So they are stupid enough to create a nuclear disaster that would possible kill all of their people and possibly contaminate Mother Russia in the process?

Russians are pretty dumb, but I don't think they are that stupid.

Remember, Chernobyl was theirs at the time!

If the power lines are hit the load comes off the turbine. Not a big deal. Power load fluctuates all the time.

Remember when tornado Maria destroyed all the power transmission towers in Puerto Rico?
Hundreds of miles of towers and lines were rebuilt in two years. Damage from Putin's missiles or bombs should be very localized and replaced quickly. But no power in a cold winter for a few weeks could still freeze people, another war crime for Putin's list.

If your analysis is correct, then the article is merely sharing some irrational fear or bogus propaganda.

I’d like to agree with you. But that facility was previously attacked by Russia during this war of aggression (they did this in March of 2022).

I just don’t give much credit to Putin’s foresight or that of his brain trust.

I don't think it was in operation at the time either and they did not target the reactors but support infrastructure and I don't think the attack was planned in Moscow but probably by some idiot on the ground in Ukraine.

oil prices are plummeting thanks to Trumps policies .. gonna be harder for the Ruskies to finance their war machine ..

Maybe.

I believe that part is true.

Just guesswork.

But attacking the power lines could still yield very dangerous (even if unintended) consequences to the systems that keep the reactors from going critical.

I think the entire thing is pure speculation.

They likely have generators for that. Hopefully they have fuel. When Fukushima went, the generators were flooded by the tsunami.
