It's there now.....the Pope has been using it for decades. I'm surprised any security detail that hires on for central celebs doesn't insist on some kind of transparent barrier. I mean come on the time for wait and see if long past with Butler PA, the golf course stalker and now Utah.

It's inexpensive, less than 20 k for the needed surface area, fairly light weight and easy to move.
It's a no brainer.

It keeps the pontiff lead free.....sooooo

Well, you are forcing me to reveal something I wasn't quite ready to go public with just yet, but Kirk knew the risks; for six months before the shooting, his security had been warning him he was going to get shot if he kept doing these college tours the way he was, out in the open with no real security.

People at the Utah event were free to literally just walk right in, no ticket, no ID, no pat down, no metal detector, no bulletproof shield, and practically no security outside of a few right around him to protect from immediate attackers.

I am of the strong opinion now that Charlie intended to martyr himself. He literally put his life in Jesus' hands feeling that Jesus would protect him, and if something happened, it was God's will, that the Lord wanted him to die for a higher cause.

And he was probably right. Charlie's death will probably accomplish things now that Charlie himself never could have accomplished had he not been killed.

Well one thing makes me angry.... He was married with kids. While I can understand is push to become a Martyr for the cause it's not really his call to make if he's connected to a wife and children.

Interestingly here in town it was an absolute beautiful mural painted by an artist several years ago on one of the YMCA brick walls downtown.

The name of it was maiden, mother, Crohn.
It was an image of a young black girl growing up against the backdrop of a big city showing her and her favorite playground tree growing old together.
A spectacular piece of cultural artwork if I may say so myself. Yesterday a contingent of overzealous sjws whitewashed it to be replaced I suspect with an image of Charlie Kirk.... To me this is a great loss. I see no reason why room could not have been made for both images. So I agree with you his death is definitely going to be more of a touch point than any of his live appearances could ever be. I am not surprised to find that his security team was warning him of the dangers. Any professional outfit would have quit the job the moment he refused protective barriers.... Unless of course they went with the faith thing. I'm not condemning it but as you and I both share a very practical background in engineering our minds tend to work in a more mechanical way.

People roll the dice when it comes to security. Hell, security rolls the dice when it comes to security as evidenced by what happened in Butler PA to Trump. Outdoor events in particular seem to always be an impossible situation to fully lock down

Well maybe. But maybe he put his cause in God's hands and knew that God and his wife would still be there for those kids. I was amazed how together his wife was to make a speech two days after Kirk being killed. It was like she was prepared for it. You do know that for the last 6 months, Kirk's own security urged him to improve security saying that if he kept going to these things the way he was, he was sure to get shot?

But other than perhaps a light bulletproof pad on his chest, Kirk felt it important to be out there shaking hands with people and putting his faith in God to do the right thing.

Kirk literally died talking about the danger of leftwing violence.

Honestly - after the Trump assassination attempt - why on earth do they not employ drones??
Cheap and very effective. They would have caught Trump's attempted assassin, and they would have caught Charlie's.

There must have been a drone there that day--- Kirk's last tweet was about the Utah event and showed an aerial view of the crowd-filled court taken with a drone.

But it was a big place spread out with a lot of buildings.

The rooftop the shooter picked was an obvious selection. If there had been secret service there that day the shooter would have been dead before he pulled the trigger the moment he laid down and stretched the rifle.

The person who operated that drone was not doing it for security reasons. BIG difference. Completely different usage.
If his security included a couple people with drones - 100% they would have seen an individual getting on a roof because that is precisely what they would have been looking for

They should have had sharpshooters on the lookout. I'm sure from now on they will.

Have a customer on my route that makes mobile drone command centers full of screens and joysticks. Pretty cool stuff.

So even with the procedures you described, they would not have saved Charlie Kirk because Robinson was out side the perimeter of security. he was 175 to 200 yards away.
Yes! a 3/4 inch or more sheet of Polycarbonate would have stopped or deflected a shoot from a 30.06 round.

Andy Ngo Beat in Portland
Conservative journalist Andy Ngo was beaten in Portland on June 29, 2019, while covering a rally organized by the far-right group Proud Boys and a counter-protest by antifa activists.
During the incident, Ngo was punched in the head, kicked, and struck with at least one milkshake that reportedly contained a quick-drying cement mixture.
His GoPro camera was stolen during the attack.
Video footage captured the assault, showing masked individuals attacking him.
He sustained a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a brain bleed that doctors said could have been fatal.

Ngo was again assaulted on May 28, 2021, while reporting on protests in Portland. He stated that he was attacked by a masked mob, chased, and beaten until he found refuge in The Nines hotel.
Hotel staff initially refused to assist him despite the mob outside.
He required medical treatment following the incident.

In August 2023, a judge awarded Ngo $300,000 in damages after three defendants failed to respond to his lawsuit over the 2019 beating.
Ngo has accused antifa of targeting him due to his critical coverage of the group since 2016, and he has documented receiving death threats and being doxxed.

How long can you keep a drone charged and in the air?

I suppose maybe they only need it right before and during the speech?

Great Idea!

They say 200 yards. I did some calculations based on 30-06, and came up with the fact that Charlie never heard the shot that killed him. It took the bullet about 1/4 second to reach him and when it struck his body, the sound wave from the rifle firing had only traveled about a third of the way to him. The bullet also struck him with around 2000 foot/pounds of energy. Since the neck is all soft tissue until you get to the spine, it likely took out the muscle used to hold his head up, the thyroid gland, damaged the windpipe (trachea), severed the jugular and/or the carotid, finally striking the spine and either lodging there or deflecting off elsewhere into the body. I don't think the bullet exited the back of him.

Yep. But I guess Charlie felt it counterproductive and did not want to have to sit behind a lexan panel; he wanted to be out there directly touching and communicating with people.

I'm betting that for all future guest conservative speakers, they will now use a bulletproof shield and be required to.

Charlie tried being polite, respectful, open and friendly. Progressives just kicked that can in the teeth--- for now on, there will be even MORE conservative speakers at more universities, and they will not make themselves vulnerable to creep attacks instead trusting technology instead of putting their lives solely in God's hands.

If they had a drone, what good would it have done? Would someone have just announced that there is a sniper and everyone should take cover? Imagine the resulting stampede!

There was not a USSS detail there like there was in PA for Trump's security. What did they have? The university police department and maybe a few local cops. How many of them could have engaged the shooter when no one seems to have known where he was?
