Personally, I think that Feinstein's actions both alerted Ramirez, and distracted public attention away from him. The crude drawing she held up to the cameras, despite objections from the police, looked nothing even remotely resembling the actual serial killer.

Yes, the serial killer known as Nightstalker. There was a show about Ramirez' crimes on TV the other day.

At a televised press conference, Feinstein presented a sketch artist's rendering of a suspect after the homicide detectives had already told her that the sketch was not from a credible source. And the police told her not to do it.

Zero resemblance whatsoever.
