I'm not a vet, but I'm sure it's standard practice to take pictures of each animal before treatment for records..etc..

Never had a single vet stop and take a picture of my injured animal before treating it.

I would venture to say so. You don't see male doggies with porcupine needles all in their faces. The procupine probably just disagreed about something and WHAM!
