Perplexing Laffy Taffy Riddle

We're just about to finish up the last of the candy from Halloween. Just ran across one of the seasonal Laffy Taffy riddles which I couldn't figure out when I first saw it and still can't figure out.

Does this make sense to anyone here?


Question: What happens to a pumpkin when it becomes rotten?

Answer: It turns into a green jack o'lantern.





I don't get it!
