I'm working on a generator for my folks, and this pull starter is wearing me out.

I found this video where the OP is using a rachet adapter for a breaker bar as a pseudo-clutch to offset the sudden acceleration of the starting motor.

Anyone have any thoughts on this, or better ideas?

Thanks,

MOe

Better to fix whats making it hard to start

I fail to understand why you can't just check the spark plug and clean the carburator and air filter. Small engines are not spaceships, pretty darn simple technology. Even if the drill starter works, it doesn't fix the problem.

Done all that.

I'm working through stuff that was flooded in the hurricane. Got a lot working, but some had to go in the trash.

I see. I never had a small engine that went through a flood, but I did have a little Ford that did. It may not apply to this, but it may. I removed all the spark plugs and put a heater on it for a day.
I did have to replace the coil on that one, but if you have spark it must have a working magneto.

Depends on how good your mechanical skills are, and if you're willing to spend a little money.

Assuming if you have both, here you go.

Coil is next. I'm sanding the rust from the magneto right now and cleaning and resetting the coil gap.
