Are you learning yet America? I suspect our dollar is 30% overpriced. There is no way based on our economy and lack of innovation and.fascist impulses that the dollar is as high as it is, even if weak by U.S standards. Our premier just returned back from Texas, not that Gov Abbott met him, he knows better. Texans like freedom, not fascism. Ford government giving sweeping powers to appointed regional chairs.
From strong mayors to strong chairs.
Municipal Affairs Minister Rob Flack is giving sweeping powers to the regional chairs the government will appoint to head Ontario’s eight largest regional councils.
The proposed legislation would allow him to directly appoint heads of regional councils in Peel, Durham, Halton, Muskoka District, Waterloo and Simcoe County — as well as Niagara, where the regional chair recently resigned following the revelation that he owned an autographed copy of Adolf Hitler’s book “Mein Kampf.”
“We are giving local leaders the ability to speed up decision-making, end dysfunction at the regional level and create the conditions to expedite housing and infrastructure development so more people can find an affordable place to call home,” the Ford government said in a briefing document released to the media Friday afternoon.
The government is also shrinking the size of the Niagara Regional Council from 32 members to 13. In Simcoe Country, the number of councillors will drop from 32 to 17.
The changes, which will be in effect for this October’s municipal elections, will allow chairs to hire and fire staff, including chief administrative officers, and “bring forward matters tied to provincial priorities for council consideration,” according to the briefing document
