LEWIS CENTER, Ohio (WCMH) — A high school principal was placed on administrative leave after including a controversial message about the results of the 2024 election in a newsletter to staff.

Olentangy Orange High School Principal Monica Asher was placed on paid administrative leave after voicing frustrations about the results of the election. Asher included the message in a weekly staff newsletter sent out Sunday evening, and district representatives said she was placed on leave effective Thursday.

“I can’t write a message that pretends like the election didn’t happen; especially when so many of you are struggling with how to move forward,” Asher wrote. “I know you are struggling with how to move forward with your students who are afraid, but also how to move forward with colleagues that don’t share your views.”

Her administrative leave only lasted 3 days, by the way. Now she is back at work as if nothing ever happened. I bet she even got a raise.

I have struggled this week to find the right words for the SOP. I can’t write a message that pretends like the election didn’t happen; especially when so many of you are struggling with how to move forward. I know you are struggling with how to move forward with your students who are afraid, but also how to move forward with colleagues that don’t share your views. This week, I saw pain, uncertainty, and division. I have to be honest, I am not entirely sure how to tell you how to move forward. What I can tell you is that I am here with you and my values have not changed. That said, I ask you to join me and move like buffalo through a storm. Rather than running away from a storm, buffalo typically face it head-on. They take stock of the direction the storm is moving, gather together with their herd, and move directly into it. They stick together for protection, with the stronger individuals leading and guiding the group, ensuring that the younger and weaker members are kept safe. Moving towards a storm seems a little strange, but they do this because they know that the first place where there will be light is directly on the other side of the storm clouds. The buffalo's resilience, unity, and strength is drawn from working as a collective. By working together, we can also face any challenge. We can support one another and create an environment where both we and our students thrive. We can move towards the light AND we can create the light; we don’t need to wait for it to come to us. I continue to be proud to be your principal, and proud to be a part of your herd.

I'm optimistic. The students -- at least the females -- in the school in my small town are very supportive of a movement AWAY FROM such crap as the gender BS, etc.

I know their parents and they are very stable folks who keep their kids on the straight and narrow.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – The Olentangy Local School District reached a settlement last month with a former employee who claims she was unlawfully forced to resign over remarks deemed racist by the district.
After a two-year court challenge, former Olentangy Liberty High School aide Antoinette Evans agreed not to seek re-employment with the district in exchange for the Olentangy Board of Education’s separation of any disciplinary records from her personnel file – including those detailing Evans’ comments linking COVID-19 to China and the country’s sale of personal protective equipment, according to a copy of the settlement agreement. The district awarded her $100,000 as part of the settlement.
Evans, a 25-year veteran of the district, resigned from her role as study hall monitor in April 2021 after commenting to a student, “Can you believe that the coronavirus came from China and that China is making money from the sales of PPE to the United States?”

The said employee just stated facts, and was fired for it.
