There’s a brief section of Beethoven Emperor Piano Concerto No. 5 that used to strike me as sounding different from one pianist to another. I thought it was because I was tone deaf. I’ve since learned that it’s a very difficult section to play and several, famous recorded concert pianists actually round it up and smooth off the triplets and thirds. Lang Lang plays it correctly. Frank Zappa would NEVER allow a musician to take a short cuts and I could see Beethoven saying, “No! Play as I wrote it!”
