The group has bought a 90pc stake in the US company, which develops a range of mobile and internet-based software, professional services and data systems for 200,000 teachers to assess the progress of 3m students across the US. News Corp said the company, which currently has 400 employees, focuses on the “K [kindergarten] to 12 age group”.

“We see a $500bn sector in the US alone that is waiting desperately to be transformed by big breakthroughs that extend the reach of great teaching,” said Rupert Murdoch, chairman and chief executive of News Corp.

Certainly taking an all inclusive approach to finding ways to use both the internet and computer techology in education is a good idea.

Haven't had to to evaluate their products "Burst Reading" or Mclass, yet.

But this approach, or something like it, is inevitable.

This is only partly about learning or students, it is more about administrative work and communicating with parents. My wife's school uses Fastdirect which makes a few tasks easier and presents a common site for homework etc, but it hardly changes the dynamics of learning when parents and children are not interested. It is funny listening to my wife tell a parent something has been posted for several days, but still the parent is asleep. Kinda funny how large corporations can make tons of money contributing trifles. imho America loves measuring and polling, when will the time come when they learn working hard and participating.
