Nicole Mitchell’s stepmother called 911 and reported a burglary at her home on April 22, 2024.
Mitchell wore all black and tried to run out of the basement as law enforcement arrived on the scene to confront her.

The Democrat was charged with first-degree burglary and possession of burglary or theft tools, CBS News reported.
The jury was seated on Monday. On Tuesday, bodycam footage of police officers confronting a beanie-clad Mitchell was released.


According to the criminal complaint, Mitchell’s stepmother called 911 to report the burglary, and Detroit Lakes police arrived to see Mitchell fleeing to the basement.
Mitchell, who police say was dressed in black, allegedly told police she had entered the home to retrieve personal items connected to her recently deceased father after her stepmother cut off contact with her and other family members.

Charges say officers found a backpack with two laptops inside, a cellphone, Tupperware, items identifying Mitchell and a sock-covered flashlight.
“Clearly I’m not good at this,” Mitchell allegedly told officers, according to court documents. “I know I did something bad.”



They find the little rat at ~1:42 hiding in the basement. She got in thru the basement window.

I don't turn on news on radio or TV since 04NOV2020. So I figured I just missed it. But when I started to post a thread, it did not come up in the similar. So maybe it was not here? Enjoy it now as most of mine usually get deleted. Not often you see a sitting Politician in handcuffs admitting "thru the basement window". She was a talker.

Sen. Nicole Mitchell, DFL-Woodbury, was found guilty of first-degree burglary in a stunning conclusion to a legal saga that began more than a year ago.
In April 2024, Mitchell was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary after allegedly breaking into her stepmother’s Detroit Lakes home with the intent to take items that once belonged to her late father. A second felony charge, possession of burglary or theft tools, was later added by prosecutors.
Mitchell’s trial began on Monday and featured body-camera footage, several witnesses, and the senator testifying in her own defense. On Friday, the defense rested their case and both sides made their closing arguments.

After a three-hour deliberation, the jury convicted Mitchell of both felony charges.
The convictions will have major ramifications for Mitchell personally and the state Senate. Under Minnesota law, a conviction of first-degree burglary carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a $35,000 fine, or both. Mitchell has two young sons.

The Senate seat in question, District 47, includes all of Woodbury and part of Maplewood. In 2022, Mitchell won the seat by roughly 17 points.
“Senate Republicans have been clear since day one that this conduct is unbecoming of a Senator and we expect [Mitchell’s] immediate resignation from the Senate,” said Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson, R-East Grand Forks, after the verdict was announced. “If she is unwilling to resign, she must be expelled as soon as possible to protect the integrity of the Senate.”


Commentary:
Family members can be the worst when it comes to being petty, on both sides.
I’m sure they offered her a sweet deal but she turned it down to try and save her political office. Now she’s at the mercy of the judge.
Who knows how that will turn out? She's never been convicted of a felony, this is her first time. Let's not forget she a State Senator and Democrat. Depending on the political leaning of the Judge, Mitchell can and may be given leniency, with Community service and a slap on the wrist.
