A meteor has rocked the skies of western Cuba, exploding mid-air, shattering windows and raining charred meteorite rocks on people’s homes. Before its spectacular demise, the space rock was seen flying above Florida.

The meteor exploded near the town of Viñales, in the Pinar del Río province, Friday, with witnesses reporting hearing two loud blasts as it disintegrated. The body left a huge trail of smoke in the sky and showered the ground with small rocks.

To think that past civilizations were wiped out from earth, because of meteors,comets and similar bodies coming from outer space!

It's sobering, to say the least!

And makes us appreciate that Big Brother Jupiter has taken a lot of big hits for us, like Shoemaker Levi 9 that left a crater bigger than the diameter of the earth.

Great post thank you! this short animated movie of 5 minutes ...shows this spectacular event! totally amazing and almost beyond human comprehension!!

Just to mention that the comet that killed the dinosaurs was much much smaller that this one.....so....
