The late Lenny Bruce was often quoted as saying, "Men are carnal by nature. They will schtup anything...mud!"

This astounding legal settlement in Los Angeles is just the latest in an endless line of revelations of organizational sexual abuse, almost exclusively perpetrated by men against boys. The employers were churches, boys' clubs, orphanages, summer camps, and so on. There is no doubt that it is cross-cultural. It happens in Bhuddist monasteries, Muslim mosques, Mormon temples, et cetera. It was a huge problem when Canada embarked on its initiative to civilize indigenous yoots a few generations ago. It undoubtedly happens in cultures where it is less likely to be discovered and publicized - anywhere you find non-parental men having charge of boys.

In virtually every case, the leaders of the organizations have taken precautions to ensure that they don't hire pre-verts, but the pre-verts are just as determined to get those positions, undetected. But it's not like the hiring organizations have a large number of willing applicants among which to choose the best.

Clearly, going forward any organization in a position to take custody of children must take every imaginable precaution to eliminate opportunities for this sort of misconduct. Is that even possible?

Boys need to stop being so damn attractive.
