The Social Security Administration just canceled Maine's ability to automatically register newborn children for a Social Security Number. Now they have to wait for the official birth certificate and then travel to a SS Office to file an application.

So much for "efficiency" and "waste".

Why is this just limited to Maine?

Gee whiz. I didn't get my SSN until I was 16 and needed it for my first job, and it didn't kill me to have to go to the office to get it.

Imagine that. They must be incredibly wussy in Maine to cry over having to go ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL the way to the SS office.

Maine is the embodiment of fraud and waste.

Im sure it has something to do with birthright citizenship

Same with me. But in our time you didn't need an SSN to file taxes and list children as dependents.

Now it's required for Income Tax purposes.

It's fraud and waste to be able to automatically get a SSN for a new baby, the same way as the other 49 states, DC, and Territories?

WW

With so many people's credit having been effed up by their parents having their SSN when they were kids, perhaps we should wait until the kid is at least 14 to be able to get one.

SSN's are now required to be able to take the Dependent Deduction on your Income Taxes. It allows for verification of existence and verification that the same dependent isn't claimed on different returns.

So while getting an SSN is voluntary, it will cost you.

No, it's fraud and waste for the governor refusing to follow the laws which eliminate fraud and waste.

Governors are the Unitary Executive of the State, they can do whatever they want and are not required to follow the law.

Just as Trump is the Unitary Executive of the Federal Government, he can do whatever he wants and is not required to follow the law.

I see what you're saying. You're saying that no one is above the law on the right but everyone on the left is above the law.

Didn’t you hear, behind the scenes Trump has sold Maine to Canada for 800 barrels of maple syrup :-)

Nope, just the opposite as a matter of fact. If Trump is above the law (i.e. Unitary Executive theory) for federal law. Then governors are Unitary Executives for state law.

So is Trump a dictator and can do anything he wants, or are his powers limited and he must follow the law.

Your choice.

This may sound childish but I don't give a damn. Democrats started this shit and they are going to pay the price for it. The fact is, if I have a choice between a dictatorship by the right or a ditatorship by the left, I will take the right. Right after the election a CNN poll found that out of the voters who voted solely to save democracy, 58% of those voters voted for Trump.

I agree.

That does sound childish.

Glad we can agree on something.

Let's just say that, in the end, my choice of voting for a dictatorship by the right instead of a dictatorship by the left, is the very same thing voters voted for when they elected Trump. In fact, CNN did a poll shortly after the election which showed that out of the voters who voted solely to save democracy, 58% of those voters voted for Trump.
