I replaced the halogen bulbs under the hood with these LED ones a few days ago.

They make the engine in my 35 year old beater stand out nicely in a dark garage...

Really thinking about replacing all of the bulbs inside and out with LED ones at some point.

It's like 150 bucks for just LED headlight alone, though. That's crazy.

1990 Corvette?

engine is clean.

Yep. Good guess. I don't hardly drive the thing, it's just something to tinker around with until something else comes along and catches my interest.

But I was surprised at the light that those tiny LEDs produce. They're really small bulbs. Used to be they weren't that good, but I guess the technology has improved.

I changed out a couple of the old 48" bulb gargage lights with a couple LED lights, now I just turn on the couple LED's when I'm out there most times, they are all I need if not working on something.

C4 with TPI. Nice.

The LED headlights for my 25 year old 911 were $500 a side.

If you really want bright you go HID, but almost everyone says they have problems with the ballast and many (or most) say they switch back to LED.

Never heard of anyone referring to a Corvette as a "beater", but OK.

I guess I say it that way because at the end of the day it's really just a 35 year old Chevy with a 350 small block. Nothing to write home about in that regard.

Damn. That's insane money for headlights.

I get that they're no doubt special builds for an old car like that with a relatively niche demand, but still.

Anything that says "Porsche" is automatically unreasonably expensive.

But I've wanted a 911 since I was a kid and I knew what I was getting into.

FWIW, though it's easy to see the utility in your particular application, I really hate the garish and stark white LED light in normal usage.

Yeah, I know. I feel the same way. All you can really see is the top of the engine. Everything else is just a shadow. I was gonna get the slightly yellowish ones but they didn't have em in stock.

Only reason I put the LEDs in there in the first place is because the halogens drain the battery unles you unplug em.

Mightwire in switches on the light housing at some point.

Halogens get seriously hot too.

Yeah. Same gambit with the vette.

We always a get an extra added tax on parts because of the badge on the hood. Dumb shit...

There's a guy who sells old Porches down the road here. And he's a certified Porche mechanic. He always has several on his lot, too.

I stop in there once in a while and look around because he has some really nice ones.

I know that one of these days I'm gonna grab one on impulse.

I like the 911, too. He's got a red one and a black on his lot at the moment.

/——/ I replaced the headlight bulbs on my 3011 Volvo so I could see better at night. $32 a pair.

I'm working my way up to a 993, but the 996 is a blast anyway and much cheaper.

I had an early C4 with the crossfire injection and that silly two stage transmission. Was a giant pain occasionally but I still loved it, lol.

Yeah, that's how I feel about the C4, too. It's just plain raw on the roads, and for the cost, minus maintenance, I've been happy with it for what it is. I've considered picking up a C7 for road course tracks and a move down to Florida, but I just got hit with a stage 4 cancer diagnosis a couple of months back so all plans are on hold for anything until I see how that bullshit's gonna pan out.

Yeah, I've seen you on the vette board here and there. Think the last time I saw you on there you were asking about springs. Different C4, I guess?

LED headlights are awsome for actually seing at night, versus the old halogens. That's definitely an upgrade I want to get around to.

My thing is I don't care for being on the receiving end of them. They blind the hell out of oncoming traffic and they're dangerous in that regard, in my view.

The trucks are the worst, and for some reason they want to decorate the entire front end of the thing like it's a christmas tree.

And then you get the idiots who don't bother with aiming the things correctly.

I'm to the point where I'm just like, screw it, what comes around goes around. Ha..

I don't think that was me, it's been more than a decade since the last 'vette.

I did replace that damn transverse leaf though, lol.
