I would not have watched this show if a close friend had not recommended it to me. The 63 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes would have thrown me off.

This series is outstanding. I have seen the first 5 of 10 episodes.

The series takes place in the oil patch surrounding Midland, Texas. The main character, Tommy Norris, is played by Billy Bob Thornton. His job is to keep things running smoothly in the patch roping roughnecks, lawyers Mexican drug cartels, oil cartels, various federal agencies, the local police, his boss (played by Jon Hamm), his pampered daughter (Michelle Randolph), his hot ex-wife (Ali Larter), and his son who wants to learn the business from the ground up.

He cuts no slack for anyone and always has his hands full.

The show has enough catastrophes and humor and really good writing to keep me thoroughly engaged.

Demi Moore has a very, very small role. Her face has been so wrecked by plastic surgery, the first few times I saw her, I thought she was Courteney Cox, whose also been wrecked by elective surgery.

Anyway.

Billy Bob Thornton is given all the best one-liners.

On his ex-wife: "If she lost the power of speech, I'd marry her again."

It turns out she didn't need to lose the power of speech for them to hook up again.

As Norris is heading in to a meeting, his ex-wife, Angela, asks him to leave the truck running so she doesn't melt. They were going to her second husband's house so she can tell him she his leaving him, but Norris has been diverted to a meeting.

NORRIS: Well, why don't you just take the truck?

ANGELA: Well, how am I gonna get my car back if I drive your truck there, hmm?

NORRIS: You don't need to bring your car home today.

ANGELA: I ain't leaving without my Bentley. I don't care if I have to suck his dick for the keys, you're just gonna have to man up and move past it.

NORRIS: All right. Well, buy a toothbrush on the way home.

Great, great show. Unless you are an environmentalist, then you will hate this show.

I've been putting that off. I hear that it is politically incorrext.

It is pro-oil, bigly. They rip on windmills, solar, and EVs.

They also portray all the characters as real men who only drink black coffee and very rarely bathe.

They go apeshit when the new guy orders a latte at a bikini drive-thru coffee shack.

And they are all fearless.

We watched 3 episodes and just couldn't go on.
Billy Bob Thornton is awesome, but he alone can't carry a show when no one else is very interesting. His character's attitude and actions towards his ex wife and daughter just flat out does not match who his character is supposed to be. To much time is spent on those two spoiled brats.

I agree. Too much time is spent on various romantic relationships. I've been fast forwarding through some of those scenes.

But what show doesn't have some romantic stuff?

It still does not take away from the overall awesomeness of the show.

Billy Bob Thornton is good in just about everything. Landman has been renewed and is schedule to premiere in Nov. 2025 on Prime.

Anyone who knows anything about the oil & gas industry knows that the job of a Landman is far different than that portrayed in the series. A landman negotiates with landowners to acquire leases and other agreements that grant the company the right to explore and develop resources on their land. They also research land ownership, manage mineral rights, and ensure compliance with regulation. It is basically an office job with a lot of time on the phone taking to oil companies and mineral right owners.

Unlike the movie they really don't have much to do with the actually production of oil and gas.

Landmen into the 1980s put a lot of time in the field smoozing up with land and mineral rights owners.

I finished the first season.

Looks like Don Draper is out, and Andy Garcia is in Season 2.

he's a good actor, he should bring a good element to the show

I watch all the first season and I liked it a lot, primarily because of Billy Bob Thornton. The only thing I didn't care for was the title. A landman is a specialist in oil and gas contracts and lease. He spends most of his time in the office or the courthouse researching, buying, leasing, and selling mineral rights. A landman is not usually involved in drilling or production which is the focal point of the series.

I've watched bits and pieces. It really does look good. BBT is a very good actor.

I really enjoyed it, but the daughter and mother get to be a bit too much dippyness.
Still have to start season 2.

I can't think it will be a long lasting thing. Gasoline would have to be upwards $5 a gallon to make this believable.

The Patch Cafe is really a vacant place in Fort Worth they fix up for scenes. The cafe in the Legion movie is a vacant building in real life also.

How does the price of gas have anything to do with the longevity of this series?

15th post
Too much time is spent on the ex wife and the daughter and as good looking as they are, they’re too annoying to watch.

Other than that, it’s a pretty good show.

The last episode of this season's Landman, Episode 10 was released this week. It is by far the best episode yet. Don't Miss it.

The new season is scheduled for release about the end of this year.

it was good, no major crisis or cliffhanger like somebody getting blown or or anything

but logically......well I better hold off on any spoilers
