Here's some crazy stuff. Kids in a standoff with police brandishing an automatic. Parents?

Damn.

It's obvious who's fault this is. It's the parents. They obviously didn't teach these kids that guns aren't a toy and didn't store it where those kids couldn't get it

No, it's government's fault that doesn't defend its citizens so that guns are seen as the only way to protect themselves.
Fewer guns = Fewer shootings
No guns = No shootings

But I agree that the parents ought to be spanked!

The left always like to blame the firearm rather than the individual holding it.
The blame in this case falls squarely on the parents. The father is incarcerated (thus a crappy role model) and the mother doesn't want them (a poor excuse for a mother). These kids will just get worse as they get older because of lousy parenting.
I was around firearms and learned to handle firearms when I was 8 years old, joined the military and have several firearms of my own. The difference, good parental role models. Unfortunately, anyone can be a parent, no matter what they are like.
Most of the gun crime occurs in black neighborhoods, with gangs and black on black on crime. People like Candace Owens say it's because the fathers aren't in the kid's life. It really wouldn't change the negative culture if the fathers are themselves drug dealers, gang bangers, home invaders, thieves, et cetera.
As for gun ownership in general, there are approximately 82,000,000+ people in America that own firearms and the people committing crimes with them are less than one percent and most of them had the guns illegally in the first place, usually using stolen firearms from lawful individual's homes or cars.
Last 60% of deaths by firearms were suicides. Even if you took their firearm away, it wouldn't change their goal. They would simply hang themselves, slice their wrists, take pills, electrocute themselves, jump off a bridge or other high structure, take their car and ram into something at high speed, et cetera.

I'm not left but I stand by my words:
Fewer guns = Fewer shootings
No guns = No shootings

If you blame the individuals holding it then that in itself is the strongest proof that guns should be banned in the US.

I am a Vietnam veteran and I hate guns. The meat market has everything I need.

In the US unfortunately anyone can own a gun.
