2018: The world must save the Holy City from Israel, fearlessly confront false claims, challenge the cruelty and expose the lies. Campaigners for justice – and that includes civil society in all countries – need to reframe the Palestine-Israel narrative and demolish the Zionist fantasy.

Everyone who has been there is charmed by this exquisite city of great antiquity. It has survived two dozen wars and is the focal point for the two peoples – Palestinians and Jews – and the three religions: Judaism, Islam and Christianity. Its many holy places are a magnet to the faithful of all denominations from all corners of the world, which is why Jerusalem was designated an international city under separate management in the UN’s 1947 Partition Plan.

But Israel’s ongoing military occupation and annexation mean that countless Christian and Muslim Palestinians – even those living just outside the city – have been unable to visit their holy places for many years. And travellers from outside the Holy Land have to endure the obnoxious interference of Israeli security if they wish to set foot in Palestine and the old city.

Zionists claim Jerusalem is theirs by right. Actually, it was already 2,000 years old and an established, fortified city when captured by King David. It dates back 5,000 years and the name is derived from Uru-Shalem, meaning “founded by Shalem (the Canaanite God of Dusk)”.

A potted history looks like this. Jerusalem, in its “City of David” form, lasted only 73 years. In 928BC the kingdom divided into Israel and Judah, and in 597BC the Babylonians conquered the city and destroyed Solomon’s temple. The Jews recaptured it in 164BC but finally lost it to the Roman Empire in 63BC. Before the present troubles the Jews, in total, controlled Jerusalem for some 500 years compared to the 1,200-plus years it was subsequently ruled by Muslims and the 2,000 years, or thereabouts, it originally belonged to the Canaanites.
Jerusalem belongs to us all!

The most basic form of deception is fabricating the false symmetry between occupier and occupied, oppressor and victim. The violence of the powerful Israeli occupation army using live ammunition, tanks and helicopter gunships is equated with Palestinians protesting against the loss of their rights, lands and lives.

Just so Israel has the ability to control access they can sell tickets allowing entry to their property of Jerusalem Fanger .

Just let us know when exactly in the history of the land did Jerusalem belong to the "Palestinians", who was the "Palestinian ruler", what was the "Palestinian currency", what was the capital, language, etc. thanks.

Israel is glaringly racist
Today Jewish religious groups want control of the site for their spiritual centre and for a third temple to be built in accordance with ancient prophecies. Their plans threaten the Muslim shrines and only serve to keep political tension boiling.

What of the Arabs who chose to stay while the ever-expanding state of Israel annexed and swallowed up their lands? In the West citizenship and nationality mean much the same thing, but in the new Israel it’s very different. Citizenship may be held by Arabs as well as Jews. Nationality, however, bestows greater rights than citizenship and is exclusively for Jews. Only Jews can be “nationals” of Israel, and their nationality rights are granted by the Law of Return.

By the same token the national lands in Israel don’t belong to the people, unless they happen to be Jews. The land becomes “national” land through purchase or confiscation by the Jewish National Fund in a process called “redeeming the land”. It’s a concept taken from the Bible – except that the state, rather than God, returns the Jewish people from “exile” and reunites them with the Biblical lands which, magically, have become their inalienable and exclusive property.

So, the racist nature of Israel is brazen, and the setting up of a political party to campaign for a secular state to represent all of the people equally, is banned by law. It is plainly not the liberal, Western-style democracy they would have us believe.

Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention forbids an occupying power to deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies. The International Criminal Court, set up in 1998, regards such practice as a war crime. But because Israel, along with Iraq and the US, didn’t sign up to the ICC it feels free to carry on with its settlement programme regardless.

<snip> And travellers from outside the Holy Land have to endure the obnoxious interference of Israeli security if they wish to set foot in Palestine and the old city.

This is absolutely untrue as hell. At least according to my experience, I had no troubles at all and encountered no 'obnoxious interference' from Israeli security anywhere in the Old City.

I did however encounter obnoxious interference from a few folks in the Muslim quarter of the Old City. The first time was when I was coming back from the Kotel and rounded the corner of Ha-Kotel Street and turned onto Sha'ar ha Shalshelet Street where a man grabbed me forcibly by the shoulder to try to get me to come into his shop. I thought I was going to create an 'international incident' to get out of his grip. The next time I was walking through the Muslim shuk from the Damascus gate down Shuk ha Katsavim Street. It was very crowded but this Muslim boy kept ramming the back of my heels with his cart and shouting at me in Arabic.

Have you ever been in the Old City fanger?

In certain way actually agree with the title of the thread - but not the narrative of the post.
Of course Jerusalem/ al-Quds is important to many people and cultures, however would it be so if not for the Jews?

It is important to Christianity because of a Jew from Nazareth, and it is important to Islam because it refers to a meeting with Moses.

Jerusalem belongs to all of us as much as Madrid.

LOL so why not just say the capitol of every nation belongs to all of us ?

Deal is Jerusalem belongs to the Judaic tribes who've inhabited the area since the early to mid bronze age. It's a simple matter of native rights.

Madrid belongs to all of us, Cairo belongs to all of us....sure.
Why not make them all UN controlled, and put governments in random capitals, each year - just for fun.

Jerusalem is in Judea.
People know this, they also know what's written in their Holy books.

I love this post! Jerusalem “ belongs to us all?” Is that why the Palestinians have denied Israel had religious rights there? You talk about Jerusalem being an “ International City” under the U.N. plan in 1947. Is that why Jordan forbid Israelis to visit their Holy Sites? If the 67 War was won by the Arabs “ International Law” would be the last thing on your mind. Tell us please what Abbas has proposed regarding the Israelis having the freedom to visit their Holy Sites, you hypocrite. The Palestinians have rejected Statehood many times. According to you, they don’t have the right to demand E. Jerusalem !!

Are you kidding Pismoe, Do you know how many times Madrid changed hands ? I think Madrid should be declared everyones as well. ;-)

Madrid...Cairo, Istanbul Alexandria are all world heritage sites.
Let's just make them neutral places where the UN rules.

We can start by placing Saudi govt. in Rome, Iranians in Madrid and Japanese in Bucharest
How about switch every year until each capital has been officially OWNED by every nation - let's keep it rational that way. :)

I tend to agree that Jerusalem should have special status and access. But in reality -- SOMEONE has to be in functional control. Do I trust Islamicists to do that job? No. Do I think the UN is capable or unbiased? No.. Do I want it split like the Baby in the King Solomon story? No..

And the recent push to move the Capitol there DOES NOT PRECLUDE agreements on living there, or access, or preservation or any other thing. I TRUST that this announcement was a shot over the bow to organize a Pali diplomacy and negotiate. And it SEEMS to be working. Since Hamas is talking about reconciliation with Fatah to patch up the PA. And the Arab League is weighing in to push for a settlement. THAT -- is a good thing.

Corpus separatum is the 'true' solution for Jerusalem.

There are many posts above this in the 'He said, she said' mentality...

Jordan didn't allow access to holy sites so we won't... Is as childish an argument as Roodboys childish misspelling of words.

No, I don't believe that the UN should have control of Jerusalem under Corpus separatum either. However, there SHOULD be a 'neutral' governance of the holy city.

So, nobody can tell us exactly when it was in history that Jerusalem belonged to the beasful Belestinian beoble.

Notice there is no condemnation of Jewish access to Holy Sites before 1967? Not surprised. Show us where that position in the Palestinian leadership has changed. Jerusalem will stay under Israeli control. What happened before 67 will never happen again

I don't think there're sane people who would want to be put in such a position of responsibility.
I've heard some rabbis say that there should be an inter- religious council, however 3 is not a good number for neutrality.

"Some rabbis" don't represent all Jews in Israel.
