I encourage everyone to watch and listen.

I encourage everyone to read this:

The Science of Near-Death Experiences

That was a long article, and fair. I believe it gave a fair assessment of arguments for and against the belief in NDE's. A skeptical mind is a wonderful thing. I am certainly skeptical of some of the experiences I I've heard. Anyway, thanks for sharing the article.

they weren't going to take her at that time ... neat story, vivid dream.

NDEs probably do occur, but the experiences are never the same. This suggests an injection of emotion and bias. Or perhaps, there exists some world of ideas and emotional fancies. The Christian conception of a "physical world" and an overlapping "spiritual world" is really too narrow.

Ian Stevenson did some investigation into reincarnation, he seemed rather lenient towards western cases, as most of his cases were in the East and other cultures where it's common. Now this could just be a cultural sentiment reinforced through upbringing, tradition, and the absence of opposing thought. But it could also be that the Oriental has cultivated a higher sense of spirituality. Iamblichus listed Pythagoras' remembrance of his past life as a sample of his piety.

Or it could be that the idea of reincarnation just kind of caught on with some people.

The ancient Greeks/Romans held a similar conception.

Where did the Christians borrow their concept of heaven and hell from?

Ancient Greeks conceived of Elysian Fields and Hades.

Who was received into the Elysian Fields?

Heroes, conquerors, poets, muses, artists, sculptors, "those who improved life, with discoveries in Art or Science, and those who by merit caused others to remember them."

Are these not talents and traits which children often surprise us with? Why do some children manifest these gifts at an early age?

Some will say "god" and some will say "hereditary traits." A third alternative: they would have been cultivated in past lives.

"From Plato come their punishments, their rivers of the underworld and the changing from body to body..." (Plotinus)

As for Hades, it means Man is the architect & forger of his happiness or misfortune.

"Thou wilt likewise know, that men draw upon themselves their own misfortunes voluntarily, and of their own free choice." (Golden Verses of Pythagoras)

I have seen some pretty interesting reincarnation claims. I don't know if they're true, of course.
