Responsibilities​

The Philadelphia Sheriff's Department is responsible for a wide range of duties, including:

• Court Protection: Providing protection to witnesses, juries, judges, defendants, and the public in six court buildings five days a week.
• Prisoner Transport: Transporting 350-450 prisoners for court appearances and trials from jails in the region.
• Fugitive Warrant Unit: Working aggressively to get violent criminals off the street by reducing the backlog of about 3,200 warrants.
• Foreclosure and Tax Sales: Handling between 4,200 and 4,800 new foreclosures and between 4,000 and 4,200 tax sales annually.
