We got hammered with 8 inches of blowing snow, some drifts 3 feet deep. Our road crews sprang into action, plowing the streets clear to the curb, which clears the bike lanes. Of course, there was no one biking on the streets, but hundreds of pedestrians were walking the sidewalks. So, the plow drivers plowed the snow from the unused bike lanes onto the heavily used sidewalks, usually after they had been cleared of snow. It's especially gratifying for the plow drivers as the snow quickly turned to slush as the weather warmed up. Of course, it will freeze overnight into a horrible mess, to the delight of the city, especially because the sidewalks must be cleared of snow and ice by noon of the day following a snowstorm, which in the case of my sidewalk is a virtual impossibility.

Another little caveat. The sidewalks must be cleared so that the very people who tramped it down today will have a nice clear sidewalk tomorrow.
