Gov. Kathy Hochul’s administration has declared an end to the unsanctioned strike that’s hampered dozens of New York prisons for weeks and fired thousands of corrections officers who refused to return to work.

Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Commissioner Daniel Martuscello told reporters Monday evening the strike was “over” and revealed that the prison guards who failed to clock in Monday were canned.

“We are committed to building a dedicated, resilient workforce and attracting the next generation of correctional leaders,” Martuscello said. “We will work to ensure the new department will be safer and more effective for everyone involved.”

Ha! I guess union busting is fine as long as it's a dem doing the busting.

That’s the right thing. Too bad she’ll fill those spots with fellow travelers, if at all.

Unsafe, understaffed big time, and mandatory OT....Good luck finding 2K new guards.....Illegals maybe?

I don't know about NY but it seems prison guards can be hard to replace.

The Taylor law in NY gives government workers the right to organize, but specifically denies them the right to strike.

Taylor Law - Wikipedia

One of the most controversial parts of the Taylor Law is Section 210, which prohibits New York state public employees from striking. For certain unions, primarily law enforcement, it provides for compelling binding PERB arbitration in the event of an impasse in negotiations. For all others, except for law enforcement unions, it provides for non-binding "fact-finding," in which a panel of arbitrators make a recommendation to the parties on what is considered a fair settlement of the dispute.

New York should really contract out their penal system to one of the fine private companies that does this kind of work

Whoah! Easy there girl! It's against the law to fire and replace Union workers! Where's the NLRB here? Oh that's right it's asleep at the DEI wheel.
Apparently they had a no strike clause.... However if they can establish that they were good faith up to that point and being completely ignored they may have an option.

nope ...when you sign a you will not strike clause, you cannot strike....

Kudos to her for canning the bums and then barring them for future work. 😊

I actually am really impressed with how she handled this and these bums!

Those positions don't need to be filled either.

They are violating the Taylor law, the NYS law that bans public unions, especially uniformed safety related public unions, from Striking.

She also gave them weeks to give up, and they didn't.

They don't sign anything, they are covered under the Taylor law, a NYS law that bans public sector unions from striking.

Dupe

Now she needs to PROSECUTE the ones who illegally went on strike. Lock them up and preferably in the same places they worked. Make EXAMPLES out of them.

Private prison administration has a bad reputation, and probably would not fly in a Democrat-run state.

One has to wonder how she thinks the corrections department can function with 2,000 fewer guards.
